I am unsure if this is the correct place to ask.
Can anyone tell me what the difference is for gamers for the XBOX 360 to the Wii.
ALso is it true that you cannot play the Wii sitting down, you have to stand up and move around with it?
Nearly purchased a Wii this morning, buy already have a Xbox 360.
My children play it (8,6 and 5) and sometimes there Dad when he is home from work.
Thanks
Chelle

The xbox 360 i would say is suited for older gamers, mainly teens and older. It has the largest online service of the two consoles and i think, better games. The wii is more multiplayer and i have to say it is mega fun. Probably for the ages of your children the wii would be more suited with games like rayman raving rabbids, happy feet and of course the mario series. I would get the wii and myself i probably will in the new year. As for having to stand up that's not totally true, you can purchase a classic controller like all other consoles and just play it normally but whats the fun in that!

I've got both consoles so can give you an honest opinion.
The 360 is for hardcore gamers. If offers glorious games in High Def, and has the lead in the market so far.
The Wii is more of a party console & gimmick. The graphics are nowhere near as good as the 360, in fact, they would be hard to rival the PS2. It is not a "true" gaming machine - thats why they brought out the motion sensored controllers, as they can never corner the market again due to Sony's PS3 & Microsofts Xbox 360 leading the way on the graphics front.
The Wii is a class little machine though, and is great when your having a few beers with your mates around as you use the controler like you would with a piece of sporting equipment for instance.
i.e. use it as a baseball bat, golf club, bowling ball etc. You have to do the exact same movements as if you had the correct piece of equipment in your hand.
If you can afford both, then get the Wii as it is fun - but dont expect it to be anywhere near as good (graphics wise) as the 360 - it runs on gameplay only.
Another good point is the fact that you can download the old classics on the Wii such as mario, sonic etc - which is alsways great to go back to as the game creators could take a thing or two out of the old style classic games from yesteryear !!!0 -
They are quite different beasts.
The 360 has better state-of-art graphics, but the Wii is FANTASTIC.
I say this as a thirty-something die-hard gamer, and I don't praise things unduly.
In our family until the Wii turned up the rest of the family wouldn't play console games, now they love it. The key factor is the immersion in the game you get from playing stading up and whizzing the WiiMote and Nunchuk about.
Wii Sports is excellent for children and adults. The nice thing is as a mum you can feel slightly* happier that they are running about getting some physical exercise while playing.
Don't forget if you do get one, sometime you'll be forking out £30 each for extra controllers, and maybe nunchuks (£15) too.
*slightly, because this has to be tempered against the potential damage to light fittings, TV, elbows etc :rotfl:0 -
The Xbox 360 is about 'technology' and cpu and graphics 'specs', the games are almost an after thought, largely for adult (geeks) gamers.
The Wii is about pure fun, much better for children and normal/casual gamers.
Nintendo have focused on 'game play' and provide games which are not generally violent and nasty i.e. the cert 18's.
Nintendo is the games company !, they are games led. Sony and Microsoft are not, they are hardware technology led.
The Wii is also a £100 cheaper.0 -

Lol, surely the Wii is all about "technology" then too, as it uses such a complex controller and control system.
Technology, cpu and graphics are all about games. It gives the developers more to work and innovate with. In terms of development, the 360 has been designed very cleverly. It's still lacking a decent selection of games, although has the best of the three consoles.
The Wii has changed the way in which games are played, making it a much more interactive experience. It's basically stepped away from traditional gaming, and made it more appealing to non-gamers and casual gamers."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -

So the Xbox Live gaming platform is an after-thought? What utter tosh you speak!
Live is every bit as revolutionary as anything the Wii has to offer (blimey - Microsoft had a motion-sensing controller out for the PC about 8 years ago!!!), and this is from someone who owns and loves both consoles!Nice to save.0 -
I have both and the Wii is a different beast altogether from the Xbox 360. Its quite difficult to compare the two as they both offer different gaming experiences. The Wii IS a lot of fun but you will almost certainly be wanting at least one more Wiimote before the first days play is over. Everyone that has played on our Wii has thoroughly enjoyed it and most want one of their own now. At the risk of sounding sexist, it seems to appeal more to women than other consoles do when they see it in action - they are quite happy to get up and have a go and then you can't get them off it!He huihuinga taangata he pukenga whakaaro – A meeting of people; a wellspring of ideas (Maori proverb)0
