    Hi Zandoni,

We cannot offer disconnection of old appliances due to health and safety reasons and insurance purposes. Our drivers/engineers will not be insured should anything happen to them, or the property of our customers if they disconnect anything which has been installed by anybody else.

Also, our drivers/engineers work on a daily schedule so they know roughly how much they can deliver and collect that day. They do allow time to connect new appliances & they know roughly how long this will take providing the area is ready for the installation of a new appliance.

Certain existing appliances may also be built in to units or in area's where it may take longer than usual to remove the old appliance, therefore resulting in the drivers/engineers being delayed for the rest of the day meaning our other customers who may have booked certain time slots to accomodate working patterns/school runs ect. experience these same delays.

    Hope this helps

    Chris

Rubbish. More like a catch all Risk Assessment by someone that isn't competent enough to carry it out or has no confidence in the competency of the fitter. Simple don't offer a service that your not equipped to provide.

Sorry it just doesn't make sense, that would mean that a non handy person would have to employ a plumber to remove the old machine and then pay you to fit the new one.

Hi. Some retailers just don't disconnect appliances.

If you pay Argos for the fitting/removal, you have to have the old one disconnected as well.

    Some do it, some don't.
  • Surely switching the electricity off at the wall socket and pulling the electric plug out of the plug socket and unscrewing the water inlet hose isn't rocket science? Good grief, engagaing a plumber to disconnect a washing machine.......whatever next? I can understand very elderly or infirm or learning disabled people needing help with this but any other adult should cope with the not-too-taxing technical strain of disconnecting their standalone washing machine or tumble drier or dishwasher !!! As for the retailers pathetic excuses as to why they can't do it - their minimum wage delivery staff clearly don't want the hassle and don't want to help anyone, either. A bit like carpet fitting companies who fit new carpets and leave the old one lying in your driveway as they "aren't permitted to dispose of it". Hmmm. Good old fashioned service and interest in helping others has long since evaporated from the shores of this blighted isle.......

You'd be surprised how many people can't do anything practical, plus lots of people don't even have any tools. That's why they pay someone to do it for them.

So what you're telling us is that your staff are skilled enough to connect a machine but not disconnect it? And that they're covered for doing something wrong while connecting it but not disconnecting it?

Fact is, they're liable for any damage they do while in your home, regardless of how its caused.

Which is obviously why a beancounter decided they didn't want the added risk of disconnecting the old appliance.

I dont disagree that they dont do this due to saving time. But to say its health and safety when they perform duties that are essentially of the same nature is laughable and downright moronic.

The nature of that statement is the same given to me by a taxi operator at 3am on a Tuesday morning that the taxi "has been delayed by a traffic jam". Bearing in mind i do not live in a city, the nearest "traffic" is over a dozen miles away and only occurs during peak hours......at 3am "traffic" is non existent and you're lucky to see any other cars on the road. Funnily enough when the driver picked me up, he said the operator had forgotten about my booking because she was watching tv and he had been sitting in the office with her!
