Taking cash to Europe

Is there a limit to the amount of cash you can take to Europe.

I intend travelling to Germany in a couple of months time to buy a car and have been told I can get the best deal if I pay in Euros.

I remember one of those 'customs' programmes on the TV and a chap was carrying cash to buy a vehicle in Jamaica. The money was taken off him and if I recall correctly, was never returned. Although that was maybe because he couldn't prove where the money had come from in the first place, as opposed to the fact that he was carrying it.

No limit, as long as it is traceable.

Well yes traceable is important but like those programs highlight there is limits where one have to do x,?y and z. Took me surprise it was like over £600 can get in problems when I look into it after seeing that program you talking about (yes that limit is for eu to eu). From official sites. But right now maybe cause my brain is half asleep can't find the pages now.

So probably best thing to do is as follows

Have bank statements with you that show x amount being withdrawn. That bank account or tax returns to show where Money come from. Either advert details of the particular cars you looking for so can show need x to buy z.

When get airport ask someone at customs or something ESP if it is like £2k + that I got this money on me, traveling to this country to do this is there any forms I need to fill in. Cause a lot of money to lose

I don't know how much you are planning to spend, but you must declare any cash or similar over the value of €10,000 when entering or leaving Germany, even if it is from another EU state.

    Thanks for the advice

I was going to bring paperwork as well as bank statements, but thought it was better to ask.

Didn't really want to be coming back, with no car and no money either

However, most EU states simply require you to declare more than 10,000 Euro when crossing the EU frontier rather than an 'internal' frontier.

With Spain you have to declare when entering or leaving Spain regardless of other country.
