Hi All
Was just thinking if anyone has any advice about either area in terms of good areas with no crime or estate agents to avoid etc
Any advice would be welcome no matter how trivial it may seem.
I currently live in Hersham in surrey paying £800 pcm for a one bedroom flat. I could probably go as high as £1000 pcm.
In order of importance

In order of importance
- Id like to stay as far away from crime as possible, no rough areas, would even pay some more to stay away from such places.
- Close to the train station
- close to supermarket(s)
- would rather avoid blocks of flats, dont mind a house converted into two flats like im in currently
- Decent estate agents with good reputations in the area or any previous experiences of dealing with agents in the areas of wimb and Clap
- Avoiding drunks/clubs/pubs where possible

I lived in Wandsworth borough for over 20 years. I lived between Wimbledon and Putney in Southfields, at the Wandsworth end. We had a flat here for many years before moving down to the South West. It is generally a lovely area, broadly Wimbledon is in Merton, Clapham is partly in Wandsworth, partly in Lambeth. What are you looking for? Renting/buying? Is schooling important? Access to transport?0

SW London is also an area I know very well, but your question is too broad. I'm not going to type out a 1000 word essay without at least some idea of what you care about.0

Ditto, but 35+ years ago. I would guess that probably Parkside Wimbledon would be best....you can afford it can't you?RICHARD WEBSTER
As a retired conveyancing solicitor I believe the information given in the post to be useful assuming any properties concerned are in England/Wales but I accept no liability for it.0 -
Are you from the Southern hemisphere?
I live round there. Currently renting in Putters, but looking to buy somewhere eventually when I can get the money together. Really like it.
Depending on your age, you may find CJ a bit loud. If you have kids then Wandsworth seems to be where the yummy mummies hang out.
Crime-wise, you'll get little bits of crime wherever you live. But it's not bad at all. Stick a post code in here and you can see crimes (by type) on a nice map - http://www.police.uk/0 -
I also live around Wandsworth/Earlsfield way... it really comes down to what you can afford!
Wimbledon Parkside. Beautiful, wonderful. But £££££.
Clapham Junction on the city side of the station. Rough. But only £.
Work out what you can afford, and then come back with more information!0 -
There are no Wombles on Wimbledon Common!
I know a good mechanic in Morden and Clapham has SW4 every year good weekend/day of drinking that.... Oh and the Ben & Jerry festival (this weekend)
Like everyone else has said what do you need to know?Aspiring to be financially independent.... from my parents!0 -
Given it's the southwest, you're looking in a very nice area of London. Be aware that if you move to clapham, there's quite a large pub and bar contingent given its trendy reputation.Free Guides For First Time Buyers!

Thanks for all the replies
I will update the first post with this info also.

Then Wimbledon over Clapham Junction for sure. Get as close to the Wimbledon tube/rail station if you can as plenty of shopping facilities. I'd look around Wimbledon Hill Road as it's is nice and quite village-y.0

I was born in Wimbledon and lived in Wandsworth CJ and Clapham before moving to the Isle of Wight so do know the areas you mentioned
When we lived in Clapham we lived in the Clapham park area top of Acre lane, just far enough from Clapham it self so quieter but a five min walk one way took us to Clapham high street with a choice of Clapham Common/North or a 15 min walk down Acre Lane took us to Brixton (not as bad as its rep BTW) and the end of the Vicky Line
Yes there were a few council estates inc the Clapham park estate
but we never saw/heard any trouble in fact the private houses are nicer than in some parts of Clapham, for instance we owned our flat but it was a two bed Edwardian purpose built with garden, high ceilings and original features, but the one next door was rented at 1000 per month, they are certainly popular with young people the fact that we sold ours within 4 days of going on the market bears this out.
Further up towards Streatham (Kings Avenue and Lyham road where we lived) and the houses are just as nice but a bit cheaper.
BTW we had two supermarkets near us Sainsbury in Clapham High Street, and Tesco in Acre Lane - plus M&S in Brixton and Clapham South
Try Bushells EA if thats the area you want to look at they have a lot of local knowledge
Wimbeldon can be a bit expensive but I was born in South Wimbledon used to be no transport links but the tram network runs through it and again its a quieter area than Wimbledon proper.
Have you also thought about Raynes Park, that has good transport links as its just outside of Wimbledon0
