Unauthorized cash withdrawals

Hi all.
New member here but hoping someone can offer some advice.
My flatmate was just checking his Halifax account online and discovered that over £1200 has been withdrawn in cash without his knowledge! £100 first, then another £1000 on Friday followed by the rest today.
The online account simply says cash, which suggests someone has been into a branch and withdrawn the money over the counter. Or maybe it's been an error in the branch?
Has anyone had an experience like this in the past or can offer some advice on what the chances are of him getting this back? He's going into the branch first thing in the morning to speak to them as he doesn't have telephone banking but to loose that much is obviously pretty shocking!
Thanks for any advice!

He doesn't need telephone banking to call them. He should call the number on the back of his card.0

Thanks luci, will tell him to do this now!

Yes, get on to them now.
It also sounds to me like a cash withdrawal over the counter
I look forward to hearing the "result" on this one as they will have CCTV in the branch which will identify the person doing the withdrawal precisely..........0 -
Well he called the number on the back of the card but they wouldn't help, saying he doesn't have Telephone banking!
I guess he'll have to get down to the branch first thing.
Cheers,

I don't have telephone banking on some of my accounts and have still been able to phone them. I suggest he calls again and hopefully gets someone with a bit of nouse. I would have said for him to ask for the fraud dept, but they may be closed now.0

He has probably failed security in the past and hasnt reset it. Also, the £1000 at least must have been over the counter as the ATM daily limit is £300.100% G33K

Just thought I'd post an update to this.
My flatmate went into the local branch today and seems they are happy something is wrong as they've refunded the full amount.
Not only has whoever done this got hold of his details, but they must have been in contact with the bank as there was a note on his file saying he was disabled (he isn't!) and could only access his account via a branch, and his overdraft limit had been increased!
The fraud team are looking into it so he doesn't have all the details yet, but they did tell him it wasn't done at his local branch.
I guess this should serve as a reminder to everyone to be vigilant with your details!!
Cheers,
