Am I going mad???

  • I've previously had a row with Natwest over this, and their explanation was that as their computer systems don't recognise weekends or bank holidays then they tend to get taken early. They refunded me charges in that instance but needless to say I've always tried to be really aware after that of dates and when things were due (like if the mortgage is due to go out on a Monday I always make sure the money is in on the Friday as even though you can 'real time' bank on a Saturday by paying in cash the date on their system is the Monday's and banks being banks will take money out before paying it in!!!!).

sorry this will be of no use, but thought I'd share the 'pearls of wisdom' (!!) from Natwest with you!!!

I've still had a shock when checking my account today though, about £400 has gone out that I was expecting but does look lik loads awhen it goes all at once!!!

  • Same with us choc... the first month we've been over the £1000 mark and it kills you to know that you can't touch it! lol! Our child benefit went in today (and swiftly out again into the debt savings account lol. Hardly touched the floor!)) and it was due on tuesday. :)

I think Natwest are telling you a load of rubbish tbh.

In my previous job, I used to submit files of Direct Debits to BACS for collection from peoples bank accounts.

BACS will not accept files for non banking days - weekends or bank holidays.

If a company have collected a Direct Debit early, they have broken the Direct Debit rules, and you are entitled to reclaim any bank charges from them.
Is it better to aim for the stars and hit a tree or aim for a tree and land in its branches
