I bought a DiamonDeb off Ebay and its great.

Incidentally, diatomaceous earth is great for strengthening your nails.

Internally or externally? Where do you get it ? Small amounts?

Internally, you can get it from Ebay. I get mine from http://diatomx.co.uk/ and use the "for animals" one as its that same as the "for humans" one but less finely ground.

    I take 1 - 2 tablespoons a day in a glass of water.

I have one of these (Leighton Denny crystal nail file) and it's great:

After using this, I would never go back to scratchy emery boards which leave the ends of your nails rough and ragged. This is very easy to use, it just turns the nail into powder leaving a smooth finish. I find I get less nail breakages and snags since using it.

It comes with a case so is well protected, you can just rinse it under the tap to freshen it up and it doesn't wear out. You will never need to buy another nail file, so I would say it is well worth it.

have been so pleased with all the replies, am going to get the above from Boots or Amazon. shall I start with handbag size that has the protective case or the longer one £15 for home use? Is one easier to manage than the other? Fairly short nails, not wonderful long talons that need a big sweep of a nailfile
Get me out of my misery folks, with your votes, so that I can get this thing ordered! Thanks, thanks and more thanks!

My mum bought be a cheap glass/crystal nail file and it is next to useless so I would never recommend a cheapy one.

The only reason she bought me it is because I loved my Ruby & Millie crystal nail file, but after several years use I broke it (and couldn't afford a new one)!

Anyway.... Boots are stopping stocking Ruby & Millie products are selling all their remaining stock at 75% off there's been a couple of threads about it: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3238038 and https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3350712 definitely worth popping along to your local Boots to see if they have any stock left. I bought 5 of the nail fines at about £3.30 each - amazing bargain!

I would never touch a normal emery board now, they're so much better and I agree you have to watch out they'e so efficient and file so smoothly it's really easy to file off lots/too much if you don't watch what you're doing (especially when you're used to normal emery boards)!
A waist is a terrible thing to mind.
