crystal nail file

Am always having to give my nails a little bit of filing as they are not very strong
The crystal files are expensive but are they worth it in the long run? If so, any particular make?

I have one of these (Leighton Denny crystal nail file) and it's great:

After using this, I would never go back to scratchy emery boards which leave the ends of your nails rough and ragged. This is very easy to use, it just turns the nail into powder leaving a smooth finish. I find I get less nail breakages and snags since using it.

It comes with a case so is well protected, you can just rinse it under the tap to freshen it up and it doesn't wear out. You will never need to buy another nail file, so I would say it is well worth it.

I saw your thread and clicked on it precisely to recommend the same Leighton Denny file! It is excellent, comes with a lifetime guarantee as well and I have even contemplated getting another for work, it's well worth the cost!

thank you ladies-will get the Leighton Denny one (unless someone comes up with something better!) and treat my daughter as well.
I looked at price on Amazon and just the same. However I noticed that they have a longer one for £15. If it doesnt wear down I cant see the point in that but just thought I would ask if anyone thinks any advantages. Thanks

  • I have the OPI one bought from QVC but M&S also do them. Mine is 13.5 cm in length and 10cm of that is the abrasive bit - the rest is to hold it between your thumb and finger. I hate using emery boards now.

    oooooooooooooooo thank you,
a lady told me about these a few weeks ago (i'd never heard of them) I think she got hers from some show thing.
I willl go and look it as emery boards seem to make my nails worse.

  • I have both the M&S and a couple of Leighton Denny crystal nail files and much prefer the Leighton Denny one is it much smoother and takes the hard work out of it, the M&S one if now confined to my office draw for emergancies only.

A word of warning though when I first used the Leighton Denny one I found it slightly addictive and filed them really short the first few times, BUT i dont think is this really a bad thing, as now they grow very long and strong.

Every 3 or 4 months or months I take them right down again as they tend to get to a "breaking point" where a tidy up doesn't quite do it and they do start to break so its more of a pre-emptive strike,
I think it helps them grow back stronger.

A friend treated me to a manicure a few weeks ago, and the lady doing them asked me how often I had them done as my nails were in great condition, she was rather surprised when I said it was my first in two years!

I still think my cuticles are ropey though!

I have bought an expensive one before but it broke when I dropped it so was a bit of a waste of money. I picked up some glass type ones (not sure if chrystal) from £ shop the other week and the quality is ok. Might be worth testing out a £ shop one before splurging.
