jobseekers cancelled because of short break.

Hi, took my 18 yr old son to France to visit his grandad last week, we expected to be home Thursday night, (was a short 3 day trip)as my son signs on jobseekers allowance on the Friday, but due to illness did not arrive back until late Friday, phoned job centre this morning to inform and just had call back saying hes to hand his book in, as they will now cancel his claim and he'll have to resign.
I was not aware of this at all, and feel terrible as I said to him I'd ring this am to sort it ( he's gone for college interview).
Has anyone else had this happen?

Lol.
He missed the claim date with no notice, why didn't he call on the Thursday or Friday morning?
He will have to reclaim. I don't know what else you would expect?Per Mare Per Terram0 -
This is pretty normal I think. He wasn't actively looking for work and missed his appointment so usually will have to submit a new claim.0

Yes, you're right, I think it just took me by surprise that you need to inform of short break. Guess I need to read the small print!.:)The most important things in life aren't things!

JSA is paid to allow you to look for work, 3 days in France isn't looking for work.
His claim was cancelled because he didn't turn up on his sign on day, and didn't ring to tell them why (until 3 days later).Per Mare Per Terram0 -

well he should read the small print, did he not know he had to tell them he was going away for a few days0 -
no, we didn't. Oh well, to be fair, his grandad may have some work for him later in year so if he hasnt got his college place or apprenticeship then thats good news to have come out of it all. Hopefully, he wont be on it much longer.! fingers crossed. The most important things in life aren't things!

His claim wasn't cancelled because he missed his signing, it was cancelled because he was out of the country.0

I think he might have been fine had he called on the Friday morning to tell them about the delay although being abroad doesn't look good admittedly.0
