Why would I need to explain why renting is different to buying, and therefore requires different support, laws, and regulations?0 -

So you do or do not think tenants should be limited to 18 months rent support like you think buyers should be?“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

Didn't make sense. Think you've been borrowing the "geneer random sentence generator" again.
Do you think they should have less or more support than buyers?“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

Support in what way?
I'm stating that I would like to see rental laws looked at. That is, rental controls, much like the US and lots of european countries have. Tenancy laws re-written and added to.
For instance. There is a requirement that landlords hold the deposit in an approved fund. Can't remember the name now.
Anyway, was reading the home buying board just the other day and the tenant was having trouble getting his deposit back. It got to taking the landlord to court as the landlord had not protected this deposit in the correct way. The landlord then decided, on the court proceedings, to put the money in the correct place. Therefore, landlord is sorted, tenant has to pay the court fees (apparently) and the law is on the landlords side as the money on the court date is protected.
There is a requirement to hold the money in this special account, however, nothing is done if it isn't. As long as it's in on court proceedings, thats all that matters. It's frankly stupidity, and I think much of this stuff needs to change.0 -
Graham, simple question.....
Assuming the rental laws stay the same as they are now, Should unemployed tenants receive rental support for longer, the same time, or less long than unemployed mortgage holders receive SMI?
Try not to ramble old boy.....:(“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

As I said....post 30!No, I don't think 18 months is viable as renting is a different kettle of fish
Again, I am lost as to what you want me to say on your questioning.0 -

Just so we're clear, you think renters should receive it for longer?
If so how long, and why?“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

Jeezus Hamish. What is wrong with you?
No, I don't think they should have support for longer. But some form of support would be a good start. Even if that support is rent control or regulations.0 -
lemonjelly wrote: »However the article, and some subsequent posters have been pushing the notion that you can evict a tenant in order to get other tenants in who will pay higher rates.
Is that ethical? Provided the tenant has abided by the terms and conditions of the tenancy, then why should a LL want to evict them (other than for a quick buck?)
Have you any idea as to the potential cost of an eviction and the likelihood of effecting recovery of the debt?
Far outweighs the potential benefit of charging a few extra £'s a month.0
