If you're around bristol / bath then you may well be paying a higher labour rate but I still don't see more than £300 in a head gasket (including skim) on a rover 25.

Anyway it sounds like you've already decided on buying something else. List yours on ebay at maybe £200 starting as spares repairs and see if you have any interest before scrapping. DIY the head can be sorted for under £100, somebody could have a decent working car for £300 which will appeal

I'd get the HG repaired. Have a look here. http://forums.mg-rover.org/forumdisplay.php?f=101
You should be able to find someone to do it, £300 - 350 seems the going reasonable rate. Also remember that once its done properly, with the improved MLS gasket it will no longer be prone to failure any more than any other car...
Yes...I'm biased, I own one! But you're not going to get anything much better for that kinda money. How old is your 25, and what's the mileage?

This guy is held in very high regard on the forums, based in Kent but travels all over to do rover HGs.

Well, is it otherwise sound? If its falling apart then obviously don't bother but if its immaculate then yes. Cambelt due soon or anything like that? That guy will travel to you for a little more, otherwise just ask on the MGR forums.

If you're struggling for money you might want to consider slowing down a bit, you could be using twice as much petrol by driving at 90 than if you stuck to 60... then you could buy a car that won't blow up after 2 weeks...

Our diesel 106 has done 160,000 miles, a lot on the motorway.
    But not at 90mph.

He's been very clear, he doesn't want people to tell him to slow down. He's happy doing all his wages on motoring costs until the costs get too much, then he's going to quit his job because he can't afford the commute :rotfl:DOH! :rotfl:

The insurance will love doing him for another £150+ a year for 5 years on the premium when he gets done as well. He's already a high risk driver because of his accident and age so every 3 points for him is a big deal.

But there's no telling some 21 year olds, if they want to race around everywhere, they will, until they crash (and even then some don't learn - eh OP? :)).
