First tip and most important one - don't get suckered by all the "energy efficient" kettles you will see. They are a con !!
Buy one with the heating element in the base of the kettle rather that those with the "bare" element inside, then you can heat just the amount of water you require.
ALL kettles are (near as matters) 100% efficient.
A "low energy" 1kW kettle will take 3 times as long to boil a set amount of water as an "ordinary" 3kW one - in fact, it will probably use MORE electricity as the longer time will allow more heat to escape from the sides of the kettle.
In short, a £5 kettle from Argos is just as efficient as a £500 kettle from Harrods - and it gives you £495 towards your next holiday0 -

But the OP wants a chrome kettle. I doubt they are going to be £5. They do look nice. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dualit-72700-kettle-chrome-black/dp/B0023RKRME/ref=dp_cp_ob_kh_title_0
Where did I suggest that the OP got a plastic one and not a chrome one ?
My main point was efficiency.0 -
I bought this one from John Lewis for our new kitchen and love it. It boils pretty quickly, is cordless, easy to pour and fill, holds plenty of water and I think that it looks good: http://www.johnlewis.com/230994090/Product.aspx
Unfortunately, it appears to be out of stock at the moment, but they have a polished version on the site also.
The only downside is that it can be a little noisy. Thankfully, because it doesn't take long to boil and then switches itself off, that hasn't really been much of a problem for us.0 -
thanks all
the john lewis looks similar to our old faithful too0
