What price for a new uPVC back door and frame?

Options
Somebody attempted to burgle us yesterday, they didn't get in but they have damaged the back door and frame. We've just had a quote of £1,280 to replace it (with a slightly better, reinforced one with a cat flap.) Does this sound right?

Also, can anyone 'in the know' tell me if a hardwood door would be more secure? A neighbour was burgled this week and her hardwood door just split away from the lock but then again I've seen Police kick in uPVC front doors on TV and the inner panel has just fallen out so I don't know what to do for the best.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, please.

Thanks!
Make £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)

December £361.54, November £322.28, October £288.52, September £374.30, August £223.95, July £71.45, June £251.22, May£119.33, April £236.24, March £106.74, Feb £40.99, Jan £98.54) Total for 2017 - £2,495.10

We bought a new uPVC backdoor in 2009 mahogany outside white inside and had a flap fitted, it was the best part of £900 with a discount from a mate whos a builder (15% I think) some quotes I had were in the £1200 territory without the discount. Its worth shopping around and taking a good look at the products, some I saw were truly awful looked cheap & nasty and were still the best part of a thousand pounds.

i had a new upvc door and frame fitted in december ,half solid half glass no cat flap or letter box. good solid door from a local independant,i wouldnt consider one of the big plyers in the market, anyway the price was 860 but they did it for £800 with very little haggle
shop around and do not accept first quote

Even upvc doors with reinforced panels can still be booted in.

Pay the extra and get a Rockdoor backdoor. I can get 40% off list price with my Birmingham supplier, I'll give you their number if u need it. I've got a Rockdoor front and back door and you'd need a tank to kick those things in!

Thanks all, sorry I've not been back sooner, we eventually went for a steel reinforced one with wood veneer which has narrow panels of glass (not wide enough for anyone to fit through.) Having spoken to the neighbours it seems they heard them climb over at 10.30pm so when we arrived home at 11pm (ish) we must have disturbed them which was a stroke of luck as I imagine they were not far off getting in.

    Thanks again :)

Docmatt, how much your Rockdoor backdoor cost? Am interested and live in Greater London, guess it will be very expensive. Thanks

Someone tried to break into my place last night, My composite door kept them out :) I have had to clean a few boot prints off this morning but other than that no damage. I've said before how pleased I am with the windows and doors I had replaced but now even more pleased :)

The neighbours on one side came out and walked to outside our house but couldn't hear anything else and thought maybe it came from further down the road and went back in, the person in the house the other side was a teenage girl who armed herself in case it was someone breaking into their house but didn't think to call the Police!

Exactly what they did to us after taking a crowbar to the PVC door and failing to open it (but destroying the door in the process!). police even commented on the locks in our house being very good etc - some consolation when you've just been burgled.

And for reference our quote for a new back door - including frame and small window/skylight above door was £888.
