BT Getting Too Expensive.

Hi All,

I pay my BT bill via monthly direct debits, however it's now reaching the heights of £40 per month which I feel is too much for all I get from it (basically broadband access and some phone call is made). I'm seriously thinking about leaving BT. Blow is the breakdown of my bill; is there anything I can do to reduce my costs?

Even though you are on any Anytime package, you are still making 20 calls in that billing period which are exclusive-that's added £11.25 to your bill. Premium rate, overseas, mobiles? Cutting these out or using cheaper options will take over 25% off your bill.
You are also paying far too much for your broadband at £15.40 for the lowest option. If you are out of contract, call BT and negotiate a better rate if you want to stay with them.
If you want to leave, go to www.samknows.com and look for your LLU options, these will be the cheapest deals on your exchange.

Would using 18185 reduce the cost of those non-inclusive calls?

Thanks guys, do BT have an email address to contact them with such queries? I always find it very difficult to get through to the correct area via their phone system.

I pay £26 a month for unlimited internet and broadband, its with the post office, good service etc.
The call package is unlimited evening & weekend calls to landlines (anytime calls to other Post office users), as well as free weekend calls to some international detsinations as well as UK mobile numbers, so depending on what your non - inclusive calls are, this may be benefical!

I had a little bit of success today when I called BT, they have offered me the same package now for £26.60 per month which includes broadband at £8.

They also offered me the same package but with BT vision included for £38.50 per month, is BT vision worth getting I already have freeview that gives me BBC/ITV 3 BBC/ITV 4 etc etc?

How do these deals sound?

DON'T take BT Vision offer - its basically Freeview with a bit of on demand stuff via your internet connection - as you are on a limited download package (Option1) any stuff you watch over the connection will quickly use up your allowance ...and then BT will happily hit you with obscene extra usage charges!!

Other offer seems reasonable to me (£26 for Anytime phone plus Option 1 internet) - but not outstanding - have u got a handle on why you were paying for so many calls outside Anytime package?? Do you even make enuf inclusive calls (7am to 7pm Mon-Friday )to make Anytime worthwhile?? According to your original post you made 38 "free" calls - even if these were all in the "expensive" 7am-7pm weekday window, these would only cost £1.90 using 18185,which is a lot less than the Anytime cost.

If you are trying to reduce your billing, why on earth do you want to add BT Vision?
Also to make it work you need a minimum line speed of 2MBps.
You can reduce your bill by at least 25% at a stroke by following the suggestions already given: negotiate your BT price (as you seem already to have done) and eliminate or cut down on the exclusive calls.

BT were getting far to expensive for me too,along with their lies & false promises,I switched to Primus.On average BT was costing me around £25 a month,then with my O2 BBand on top of that,I was forking out around £35 a month.
Now I'm paying half of that for both,Just got my dearest Primus bill of £19.73,and that's only due to me making calls to sort out my disability & housing stuff as I've been diagnosed with a heart condition & not working anymore.

BT Vision usage is not part of the download allowance for the broadband package.
