Supermarket Weights and Measures Trickery - as eggs are surely eggs?

So does anyone have any gen on how much water gets absorbed by eggs when they are processed/cleaned ready for packing? I seem to have proved to myself that egg weights could be doctored by submersing in water.
Anyone know if eggs are routinely doctored by submersing in water to increase their weight prior to grading for sale?
Anyone know why we accept low quality eggs as "Grade A" in EU when they'd barely make US "Grade B" status?
Anyone know if it is legitimate whilst buying eggs in the supermarket to swap eggs between like labeled boxes e.g. between two or more marked "L" with the same date codes?
I have seen people do worse in the eggs aisle.0 -
No, because we really don't care - I suspect a lot of the posters are still only posting because they can't believe someone could be so obsessed with something as trivial as the size of eggs.0

What a remarkably childish attitude - just because he (rightfully) disagrees with you!
Oh dear.
Isn't that the OP all over though?? He is basing his argument on his perceived appearance rather than facts, as I have said his argument has no substance. The argument could be "have eggs become more pink" it still has no substance to it. Not to mention it really makes no difference, we are talking eggs that may or may not have 5g between them, not a 4kg egg being reduced to a 100g egg.No, because we really don't care - I suspect a lot of the posters are still only posting because they can't believe someone could be so obsessed with something as trivial as the size of eggs.
And the OP has the cheek to say others don't get out much LMAOEveryones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -

do you mean to swap eggs from a more expensive range with eggs from a cheaper range and pay for the eggs and come away with more expensive eggs at a cheaper price.0 -

i cant either but if it floats his boat then good for him, if hes busy doing the egg investigation then he cant do harm to anything else0 -

Besides, the codes would probably not match as they include a supplier code too?
I am still interested in whether someone in the know can confirm whether
(a) supermarket eggs are indeed routinely washed? And,
(b) if it's in hot or cold water? Plus,
(c) whether eggs are routinely submersed in water to detect floaters? Then,
(d) how long might that be for? Also,
(e) how much the weight of a 63g Large Egg might be acquired water? Finally,
(f) what a typical egg density might be before it is washed or submersed?0 -
Jeez, just buy the boxes of 15 assorted sized eggs, then there's no disappointment.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

No.
Eggs sold in supermarkets must be "Class A", and these are not allowed to be washed at any time before they have been sold, so your questions b to f can't be answered.
The following link shows the basic EU requirements for a egg to be categorised as Class A.
