Buying New/Nearly New Car

Hi,
I'm looking to buy a nearly new car (Ford Mondeo TDCi estate I think unless there are any other suggestions). I was wondering if there are any hints or tips out there as it has been about 10 years since I last bought a car.

Things like;

1. Is there a best time of the month or particular month to go to showrooms

2. Any dealer tricks to be ready for

3. Good finance deals (or bad ones)

4. Any particualrly good incentives for nearly new or new cars

I appreciate that it maybe a bit vague but hopefully it will help others too.

Thanks very much

i'm no expert here, but ideas that come to mind include:

    - pitting dealers against each other (perhaps locally or nationally)
    - using a reverse auction website (perhaps to help achieve the above)
    - agreeing to pay a super low price in exchange for buying lots of extras and upgrades
    - agreeing to buy at a nominal discount in exchange for getting all the extras and upgrades free of charge
    - agreeing to take out dealer finance (subject to being able to repay almost immediately at virtually no penalty) in exchange for a further discount off the car.
    - getting 1 years free insurance included
    - getting free servicing included
    - getting 12 months tax rather than 6 months included

You could use several of these at different stages of negoitation.

My car was 18 months old when I purchased it, but i noticed that the nearly-new used cars were the same prices as brand new ones with conservative sale offers, so with some bargaining I would have imagined it could be cheaper to buy brand new.
