in Credit cards
Hi
My partner and I are getting married on 3 August 2012 and our venue have suggested that we pay off a lump sum by 3 August 2011 to get 8% discount on that amount paid.
We are also currently in the process of buying a house so our money is pretty much tied up in that. However, we are still keen to pay off approx £5000 wedding costs by 3 August 2011.
We were wondering if it would be possible to get a 0% interest credit card and use that to pay the £5000 and pay off the credit card over the 0% interest period. However, it seems that as paying the wedding venue wouldn't be seen as a "purchase", rather as a "cash withdrawal" or "cash transfer" that payment wouldn't qualify for the 0% interest.
Can anyone advise/suggest what would be the best option for us?
Thanks

If the venue accepts credit cards then the payment should be classified as a purchase.
Be aware though, that any credit card debt will be taken into account by the mortgage provider when carrying out their affordability calculations.0 -
Is the wedding venue being paid by card or are you suggesting you are taking cash from the card to pay the wedding venue in cash?
There are some cards that allow cash transfers that are called SBT - super balacne transfer.
You need to get the right type of card and be aware the fees are around 4% so you will lose half the benefit.

Also be aware that if you pay the venue in cash then you will NOT be covered if they go out of business.
A lot of businesses have cash flow issues, but if they are pressing you for cash up front, that could be a sign that they are struggling.
Personally I would not be willing to pay them in cash and would not go for the offer.
If you are paying on a credit card then that's fine, because you'll be covered and willl have access to many more deals.0
