Off-peak return on train

Hi,
Possibly a stupid question but if I have an off-peak open return ticket from Edinburgh to Liverpool is it possible to jump off on one of the stops on the way back - Penrith for example - stay over and jump back on the train the next day continuing the return journey to Liverpool?
Or would I have to buy two singles for the return?

On the way back - yes this is permissable. The ticket is valid for a month.
On the way there off peak return tickets are only valid on the day of issue and break of journey isn't always possible. (Finding out whether it or not is difficult)0 -
The Off Peak Return Edinburgh to Liverpool (£65.70) carries a Validity code of 8A -
But this is only for the outward part of the journey the return has no restriction.Break of journey is not permitted except to change trains at an intermediate station or to access station facilities.Whoa! This image violates our terms of use and has been removed from view0 -

Sorry to jump on someone elses thread, but can anyone tell me where I can find out the validity for a route I travel quite a bit? I've just had a good look but can't see it anywhere.
Thanks in advance

National Rail Journey planner. Enter your journey, when it comes up with your journey results, select the train times and ticket type you want, then look for the big blue box named 'Tickets' and click on the underlined ticket type. Then scroll down to when it says 'view the specific 'Validity Code' applicable to the journey plan that you have selected' click on that and it should display your code details.Whoa!
