Alternatives to plasterboard (and thus the cost of a plasterer) ?

Fitting out a cellar with stud walls but I've a small angle to take materials in and I'd have to cut plasterboard down to maybe 600mm to 900mm widths to get it in even on 2m heights. Also, I have no plastering skills.

So I'm looking at alternatives to cover the stud walling and insulation, ideally allowing painting afterwards.

I don't need award winning finishes as it is only to last a couple of years but if plastering comes at too high a price, I would prefer something I could do myself.

Not sure what you mean. Are you referring to taping the joints of plasterboard and then what ?

I'm working on the principle that plasterboard has to be plastered. Remove the plasterboard and I need another substance.

Tape and joint means applying tape along joints and then jointing compound (a form of plaster). If the edges are tapered, you then sand to get a seamless look. Even if the edges are not tapered, you could get an okay joint. Or just nail/screw plasterboard onto slats and to hell with the gaps.

What are the cellar walls currently? What is the cellar for?
