had a copy of dead rising and when we put it in it kept saying cannot read disc. so took it back to GAME store today and a young sale assistant said it was like that because we must have knocked or moved the console when the game was in and seeing that we had (i don't think it had been) there was nothing he could do. i told him the game was £50 and not been played on because of this error but he said still can't do anything, so asked to see the manager which he didn't want to get and he agreed to swap it but did say that this can happen if the console gets knocked or moved. so be careful

What a good excuse for a shop to come up with. No, must be YOUR fault, can't possibly be the disc, no sirree;):rudolf:0

I'd imagine Microsoft would be thrilled at shops putting that kind of info out. May well be worth contacting MS customer support and complaining that GAME sy their consoles trash disks if moved whilst the disk is spinning. Next time it happens, you'll then have the MS response ready to hand the manager.0

Actually .. the guy is telling the truth
Disc scratching
When a user moves the Xbox 360 from a vertical position to a horizontal position, or vice-versa, the inserted disc may brush against the drive's pickup-assembly and incur scratches to its reflective coating. The Xbox 360 owner's manual specifically warns against moving the system while a disc is inserted. However, some users also reported that their disc got scratched without moving their consoles, until questioned about moving it with a disc inside the DVD ROM drive.[3] Microsoft does not replace scratched game discs, by simply replacing the media, because they do not own the rights to some games. Until recently, they offered a free copy of a Microsoft Game Studios Xbox 360 title as a replacement for scratched disks. Microsoft conducted its own research into this topic, and concluded that without moving the console, discs cannot be scratched, and therefore no longer issues replacements. [4] Note: Consoles equipped with the Toshiba-Samsung manufactured drive may experience dislodging of the disc when the console is tilted with a game inserted. This could damage the disc as well as the drive. Users with drives manufactured by Hitachi-LG have only reported damaged discs. The most sensible advice is to not risk it and simply not move the console while it is in a powered-up state, or with a disc inserted. Also do not have it standing up because this can cause it to fall and the unit will break, and it will cause the unit to break down much faster and make it less reliable.
Microsoft advises users not to power cycle the console with a disc in the tray as that can lead to the scratching of discs without moving the console.[5]
Theres more faults here as well...

Why would anyone in their right mind move a 360 when its loading a game, they would need better common sense.

If we send the game back to Microsoft, we get the price of the game charged back to our stores, its caused by consumer fault (or so microsoft tell us), because its caused by consumers not using thier 360s as advised (again by microsoft), but then again, microsoft advirtise thier 360s as playing while standing up, and that can help damage disks! Its pretty bad
BTW - 10 day policy ended October last year~*Cerenia*~

game are absolutely crap for customer service, my DS broke within the 10 days, it just wouldnt turn on, game said it was probably my fault and wouldnt swap it. So i told em i wouldnt buy from there again and took it to HMV (using my friends receipt) and they said "this is common in launch models" and swapped it. (which a few months later i sold and got a PSP.) But now i use hmv for everything, its usually cheaper and the cs is better.0

Usually when thats said, the ds is damaged, we've exchanged 2 before when people have claimed that fault, and we get chargeback from them.~*Cerenia*~
