Income Support

Hi
I have just been on the entitled to website, and it is saying I could claim Income support.

At present I get DLA HRM/MRC and SDA.

But I have just read a post on the Benefit board, saying that Disabled people can’t get income support no more, and have to apply for ESA, instead.

So is entitled to website wrong? I don’t want to go to the trouble to filling it all in, to find out its wrong. And it’s the wrong thing I’m applying for.
Thanks if anyone can advise what’s what. Just a bit confused.

    I'm fairly certain that's wrong.

For new claimants, IS claims on grounds of disability will be treated as ESA claims.

Depending on your age, SDA will be between 68 and 77 pounds a week.

Do you live alone, or are you part of a couple - I'm assuming alone for the purposes of this answer.

If so, the middle rate care of DLA entitles you to the severe disability premium of ESA.
So, during the assessment phase, you would be entitled to 65.45 (ESA base rate)+53.65, about 130/week.
During the main phase, this increases by either 25 or 31 pounds, depending on which group you're placed in.

    However.
Make sure you are likely to get it first!
http://www.benefitsnow.co.uk/esa/limitedcapability.asp this is a brief overview of the test for ESA - it's outdated.

These are the new criteria for ESA.
Get all your ducks in a row - any letters you may have from specialists, perhaps even an appointment with the doctor to get a letter from them if they are willing, and send them along with the ESA50 form for best results.
