Barclays mystery charge ?

Hello.
Elderly lady neighbour is moving banks from one of the others to Barclays and has been given a Premier Current Account. Why on earth she was given a Premier Current Account is not clear, she certainly has no need of it or any of the so-called benefits packaged with it. She does however admit, that she signed several forms having no idea what they were for.
She has now received paperwork ( I presume some form of statement ) with a charge of £100 which she cannot understand.
Does anyone know what Barclays would levy a £100 charge for and would this have something to do with the Premier account?
Thank you Pauline.

Have you seen the paperwork? Surely it will say what the charge is for? Perhaps it's best if she goes into a branch0

Thank you for your reply.
I have not seen the paperwork but she and her daughter in law have. If it does say what the charge is for, they do not seem to have seen it and are asking " me " what it might be.
I have no idea what it might be and ( having done searches on the question ) this is why I ask if anyone out there knows of a product or service offered by Barclays, for which they would levy a £100 charge. Perhaps this would be something relating to the Premier Current Account ?
Any constructive input on this question would be much appreciated.
Thank you again, Pauline.0 -

If that is so, she appears to have been misled and should go straight back to Barclays with somebody who will make sure that she doesn't sign anything which she doesn't understand and get them to open a standard current account.
Yeah the poor old girl has been Barclayed, she needs someone with her who can put a little pressure on staff to get both these monthly and the £100 charges fully refunded.
Sorry I don't know what this £100 charge relates too, I didn't keep my accounts open more than a week with Barclays Wealth after discovering their well-hidden charges on investments.
I hate hearing of these sales staff at banks talking elderly people into accounts or investments that stuff them for large charges and commissions. We could do with more organisations like Metro Bank around0 -
Many thanks to Barak and Rockitup.
Daughter in law was with her at the appointment at Barclays but it appears that this still got past them.
I advised the lady a week ago, to formally reject the Premier Current Account and request the issue of a standard account ( I have one of these myself but make no use of it ) with the blue " no fees " Debit card. It appears that she has not acted as yet.
Many thanks again, Pauline.0 -
Transcript of a recent Radio 4 Money Box programme. Read from bottom of page 10 for cases of mis-selling of packaged bank accounts.

Packaged accounts may be appropriate for older clients if they provide travel insurance that is hard for the clients to get elsewhere.0 -
But that would only be true if a) the bank client ever travels anywhere that would need insurance. many don't and b) if the insured party has no medical conditions excluded by the insurance.0

Many thanks Pmduk.
Indeed, the lady does not travel and so has no need of any such insurance, nor does she require any of the other so-called benefits that are bundled with a Premier current account. Least of all does she need the £10 a month ( they were both unaware of this until I pointed it out to them ) charged for the said account.
Lady and D-I-L are going into the bank on Monday with follow up paperwork and intend to question the £100 charge.
Many thanks Pauline.0 -
Hello again.
Well, here we are a month later and lady and D-I-L still have not established what the £100 charge was for.
Has anyone here with a Barclays Premier Account had a £100 charge levied and can tell me what was for please?
Does anyone else, know what service or function that Barclays would charge £100 for please?
Thank you.
