I always believe in driving the team hard, so your additional unpaid hours are no surprise to me RuthJasper. Witnessing time spent in idle gossip by those that then whinge about the workload makes me cross.

I am shocked that your employer permits you to not take your holidays - they are acting very irresponsibly.

I don't suppose my experience will be much help to anyone, but it worked for me. When I was 48, I was made redundant and then offered my job back at at 30% pay cut. I had been working for 32 years by then and was getting a bit fed up, so I took the money & ran, in the naive belief (so everyone said) that I could become succesfully self employed. It worked out fine and and I am still managing OK at the age of 67. Redundancy came as a blessed relief to me. I became master of my own affairs with no-one to dictate to me any more and have never been on the dole or taken any benefits at all. I began planning for my redundancy in the early 70s, so I was all ready to go by late 1992!

Holidays are an entitlement; breaks during the working day are rights. The door he is indicating if he attempts to prevent you from exercising your rights and entitlements is the one marked "Employment Tribunal this way".

SarEl, I wish you'd been around when I was in my previous job... You could have helped me with comments like "We will never promote you because you are, basically, a woman." I have a raft of proof against them, but I left it too late (wasn't strong enough to help myself at the time...) :(

But enough of me. This is YllamYlla's thread and I apologise for hijacking it somewhat. I'm still fortunate to be where I am now, as compared to four years ago.

YllamYlla - love and luck to you. :) xx
