Bullied with severe threats of violence from work colleague.

Does anyone think that the OP could legitimately refuse to drop at that particular site, but still do all the others? And if so, how should he be communicating this to the company? Or would this potentially cause more trouble than it is worth?:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0

Go and report the whole matter to the police.
This is a matter for the police. In the first instance this person should be charged with assault as well as sacked for gross misconduct no matter what the occupation. I would leave that job if I was you.
Also it shows what the employer is like. The harder one works the luckier one gets!0 -
Hard i know, but logging things down is only one mans word against another like it or not, the police wont do anything well what can they do without provoking the situation?
Think it through.
What you need is hard evidence on camera. There are many small button/pin hole cameras available the last few years, just bide your time.
Piece of mind install two security cameras at home, again pretty cheap. Can get PIR activated cameras record to hard drive, you have a pc, right! Any wrong doing if ever anything should happen can be forwarded to the police. Whether they will do anything is a different matter.0 -
Er, no, it is a police matter when you are threatened with violence, I can't believe you received this advice. Please, please go down to your local station and have a confidential chat with a police officer. You don't have to press charges but it does help to hear what they have to say.maletrucker wrote: »I didn't report anything to the police. What I really want to know is what I can do about this work wise, I don't want to quit but I don't know that I can or should have to go into an unsafe working environment.
As for the company, I hope you weren't advised the above by them as this is utterly wrong. Police first, HR next.
All the best.0 -
In your position - I would certainly have reported it instantly to the police (no matter what HR said) - but thats assuming the same set of circumstances I imagine you have. In my own set of circumstances - I would have just "walked" first and seen whether I could manage to get a "constructive dismissal" claim through second (but then I imagine my circumstances are very different to yours - and I can afford to take the risk of a claim against an employer failing....).
Had you thought that maybe HR know very well you should report this to the police and are lying telling you not to? The reason for their lying could be because the person themselves is scared of this bully and want to be able to let him know that THEY werent the ones who made the decision to involve the police.
I have seen an employer be scared by a member of their own staff before now and not deal with this person as appropriate. It was necessary to go "higher up the food chain" and report the member of staff who should have dealt with the employee concerned and state that they were obviously too scared to deal with this person (even though they were in charge of them). The "higher up" then dealt with the matter satisfactorily. In that case there was no physical violence against other employees thankfully. The employer DID have to be reminded in pretty strong terms that they had a "duty of care" to protect other employees from this particular employee and that they would do that or "have the law thrown at them" for not doing so.0 -

Sorry but there is something about your story that smells very fishy,
as you make it sound like this bloke is some kind of goblin who spends his entire lurking around this warehouse at nights waiting for delivery drivers to come by so he can pounce on them....
I agree, what the hell was that bites on the inside of the thighs business about. Surely that should sent the wind-up alarm bell ringing. What's up with this site, it's either people trying to resolve ridiculous self-inflicted problems or wind-ups.0 -
I didn't report anything to the police. I was told that unless he turned up at my house or simialar I should leave it to the company to deal with.
And the company did nothing!!!.
This is disgusting and you should phone the police, this man should not be allowed to get away with this.
Hope you get this sorted.0 -
Problem is that as a member of the "travelling community", HR are probably scared to do anything for being accused of some sort of discrimination.0

Complete cow dung!! You might as well go to HR and tell them you were assaulted by a zebra for the amount of good they are doing. Report these incidents to the police, and at least get a log number in case of any further trouble.
And listen to sarEl, she knows what she's talking about.0 -
I agree, call the police before he nibbles on the inside of your thighs again.0
