Water mystery

Can anyone help me with this water mystery in Georgian property? I have turned the water off at the main, replaced a bath mixer tap, the cold water was still blowing from the tank on the top, when it ran out. Now I switched the stopcock back to normal, switched the electrical boiler back on, waited while water would fill the tank but still there is no hot or cold water in the bathroom. Although there is cold but not hot water in the kitchen. Any idea why?

By 'electrical boiler' do you mean an immersion heater?

If so, it sounds like you switched it on prior to refilling the cold water tank, which in turn is before the hot water tank (containing the immersion heater) refilled from the cold.

Immersion heaters aren't designed to operate in air, they're designed to operate in a vessel full of water (i.e. they're immersed in water), so it sounds like the heater has given up in protest.....
