What to do in Kendal?

Hi we are spending a weekend in Kendal next week. Our party consists of two adults : myself and MrM and our daughter Emma who is 13. Any suggestions? We love walking but I don't have the "D" Factor for anything else so no outward bound activities please. Also, any ideas for what to do if it rains ie any good museums? We do visit the Lake District quite frequently and usually stay in Carnforth which means we tend to visit Windermere, Hawkshead, Ambleside and Grasmere so going to Kendal for a change.
Thanks in advance.

Yes, Kendal Museum is still open......free entry throughout 2011! http://www.kendalmuseum.org.uk/about.php
How about South Lakes Wild Animal Park at Dalton in Furness, I think you can get free kids vouchers from http://www.daysoutinfo.co.uk - click on the Cumbria link.0 -
Kendal is only up the road from Carnforth, so your options are pretty much the same.
How about Kirkby Lonsdale and as already suggested Ingleton.
Penrith is just up the M6, and not far from Keswick.0 -

From Grange-over-Sands you've got the views over the Bay to Morecambe and Lancaster.0 -
Apparently The Pencil Museum - though perhaps sounding a bit dry - is marvellous
