Perfectly normal behaviour for a 5 year old boy, the problem is in our feminised society normal boy behaviour is seen as undesirable and many people want boys to behave in the same way as girls. Mine is now teenage and no longer feels the need to run, climb and kick things whilst walking along, but still fidgets/fiddles with things (when not sleeping).

Regarding the comment you make about him foot tapping/fidgeting even whilst focussed on an activity may be a good thing- I recall some research into why some people remain naturally slim showed that they do this, they are never totally still.
  • AS a motherof 5 boys and who has also worked with many children. Your son sounds like a typical boy child to me, watch the coke and sweeeties though as they can hype them up alot. my 9yr old goesnuts on coke. As long as the weathe is fine mine spend most of the day in the garden jumping on the trampoline and getting rid of excess energy. even on a rainy day like today the minute it had stopped they were out on the trampoline until dad caught them.

i have a cousin who spent his childhood on drugs for adhd. when he got to 16 he chose to stop taking them and signed up or the army and is doing remarkably well. and this is a man who was told he would be meicated for life.

boys are just prone to jumping around and causing mayhem and as a society we spend far too muchtime trying to make our boys be still instead of being whatnature intended them to be.
