Electric meter move - where does hole go?

Options
Hi,

I'm having the electric meter resited from above the front door to under the stairs. I've been advised to dig a trench (18" deep x 1m square) outside the house for laying the 32mm ducting, which will house the cables.

Obviously a hole will need to be made via the floorboards to the new location under the stairs, and so my question is: does the ducting require a hole to be *drilled through the front wall* of the house from the trench, or is the idea for the ducting to run under the foundations (and no hole drilling required)? .:o

Many thanks.

  • just an idea ..but dont really know what you have there

if you have cavity walls ...hole is to go above damp course ..then the electrician can put the wires into the cavity...and lead them up to the site off the meter .

that would be the neatest way .

    Hi,
The walls are solid unfortunately. I'm just not sure whether the hole needs to go through the brick (and so as you say above the dpc, thanks for that), or under the foundations?! I'm a bit confused.
  • you'll have to phone him up and ask him ..

or whatever you do will be the wrong way .
btw ...1 metre wide ..does it have to be that wide ..after all the ducting is only 35mm wide...thats an enouremous amount of soil

to give you an idea ...that amount of soil, if the ditch was 12 foot long would fill a miniskip to the top....of course you will be putting it all back in again ..just to give you an idea.

See, i don't know the circumstances ..he may be planning to fit ..what is called a "slow bend"....this a a piece of ducting / Conduit that has a radius of 450mm..so then it would need a 1 metre wide ditch.

he may have it planned out exactly how he wants to do it in his head. ..so best to ask him ..i think ...or risk the job costing more because you've not done exactly what he wants.

I SAID HE ..YOU DIDNT MENTION WEATHER THIS WAS YOUR ELECTRIC PROVIDER THAT WAS DOING THIS OR AN INDIVIDUAL ELECTRICIAN
