Santander cancelling direct debits on current account - TC's ?

Can anyone point me to the correct part of Santander current account terms and conditions for this (I've looked in general account T&Cs) somewhere which give guidance on what happens when Santander cancels a direct debit. One has gone from my online banking just as it was due to be paid and I have heard nothing from Santander.

Direct debits can usually be cancelled by the account holder only unless the DD has not been used for 13 months in which case it will automatically be classed as inactive and cancelled or you have a history of DD's being returned as unpaid. If the latter case applies you need to look at your own account management.

What have you asked Santander ?
    What was it for ?
When was the DD last collected ?
