Natwest Mortgage MRP & Life Assurance

Need some advice please. My husband & I have a mortgage with NatWest and also pay Mortgage Repayment Protection and Life Insurance Cover, 3 different DD’s going out of the Natwest current acc each month. (These were taken out through the Bank on their advice at the same time as the mortgage was arranged). This is for a considerable amount each month. This was taken out at least 10 years ago and both myself and my husband were in full-time employment when in 2007 I had to finish work due to ill-health. I tried to claim under my Mtg Protection Policy at that time and they turned the claim down as I was not covered. Since this time my husband has been coping to pay the Mtg and both insurance policies himself from one wage as I cannot work and only have ESA to live on. My illness has changed since I finished work and wondered if I would be able to make a further claim, as basically if not I am making payments and have been for 10 years or more for nothing. I have continued of course in case my husband was made redundant as we would not be able to continue the repayments on the Mtg.
Can you help please or would you need further information? thanks

Which seems fair enough. Most people take their insurances out at that time.My illness has changed since I finished work and wondered if I would be able to make a further claim
If you are not named on the policy then it wont make a difference now. The insurer will only pay out on a claim if the person covered suffers a claimable event.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -

Sorry, I wrote this wrong, when I said "not covered", I meant I was insured and named on the policy, but they would not cover the particular illness I had finished work for at that time, as they considered I had finished work at my own accord and therefore not covered.:ALorri0 -

Ahh, i get you now. A few words can change the meaningYes, you have nothing to lose asking again if you feel the reasons are different now and could lead to a different decision.

Thank you, I can only try. In general do Mortgage Repayment Protection Policies relating to unemployment/sickness only cover you if you claim within a certain period of being unable to work? That will help as obviously this is 4 years ago now?
Normally you have to advise them as soon as possible or have sufficient justification for the delay. You may be able to argue a link to that original claim date. It really is impossible to say as it would require personal details that you cant post on the internet and a knowledge of the policy you have and how they deal with complaints (all companies are different). Hence, why I think you should try. If you used a local IFA, I would have said give them a call as IFAs will usually help you on claims but you used a bank sales rep and they are not allowed to get involved beyond the initial claim notification. (IFAs represent the client, FAs and sales reps represent their employer).I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only.
