Windows 7 Download

Hopefully you guys can help out with a little problem I've made for myself. I upgraded an XP machine to windows 7 pro 32-bit a couple of years ago using a digitalriver download. I burned a DVD with the OS they provided and used that to install onto the computer (No upgrade as it wasn't from Vista).

Since then, the hard disk has failed and I now, armed with a new hard disk, I need to reinstall the OS. My issue is that although I have the license key I can't find the installation media =( Is there somewhere that I can download the OS for free (windows 7 32-bit) to install using the license key I already have.

I have contacted microsoft/digitalriver support using an online form but have had no automated receipt email from it so don't hold out much hope of any reply at all let alone a resolution. I don't want to have to buy a new OS just because I can't find my DVD.

If anyone can help that'd be greatly appreciated.

Can you borrow a windows 7 disc?
  • Santer - That is an option that I hadn't considered, if there isn't a reliable download available then I think I'll be sending out a begging text to friends asking if anyone has a disk I can borrow in return for beer or favours when they need.

It's a hash file generated from the legitimate ISO, sort of a digital ID - as I don't want to post links. You can search it.
  • Russ - I don't follow... If that is a license key then I have one I just need the OS to install it and then I validate the install with my own license key which is checked don't I. If that's not what I need to do then I am:

Seen a trial for the enterprise version, others take you to Microsoft, will keep looking, but it is likely to be a 3GB download so borrowing one could be best
  • The download size isn't such an issue as it can be downloaded at work on a corporate network and it can be left downloading in the background but I think I will ask around for a disk too as that will be easier.

Question: Am I correct in thinking I can use my product key to install the same version of windows (7 pro 32-bit) from any appropriate installation media. As in there isn't a file on the install media making it specific to a certain key?

Guess I needn't to have bothered finding the hash code for you.

Even if I don't need it could you explain what it is (for)?

AndyAndyAndy I have a Win 7 disc that I can't use as I have no product key to get it to work. So if it's OK (and you don't mind postage costs) I can send it to you?
