    Not really.

They are a relatively light cropper, but not so you would notice too much. There are some better flavoured varieties around, but RS is variety prized for its flavour so you won`t be disappointed on that score.

Thanks for the reply. Can you recommend some other varieties as well please?

a friend gave me a punnet full from her garden as she had lots. They were big berried and gorgeous flavour.

I got some runners of mara de bois from ken muir only last april and they have been fruiting non stop. The foliage is lush and healthy and this is definitely a variety to go for. By the way I suggest that you don`t get any strawberries from chris Bowers as they are very poor as nurserymen and with customer care. My 12 are simply in stacking pots and I cannot tell you how delighted and amazed I am. They were recommended by cootambear, who knows his strawberries

    Gariguette and Mara des Bois

Gariguette is an early cropper, and Mara crops until the frosts.

    Top chefs use them.

If you have a lot of space you can plant Alpines too - extremely poor croppers, but taste divine.

The story of RS strawbs speaks to the story of the decline in flavour of the modern farmed strawberry. As they were smaller croppers they were abandoned in favour of heavier croppers - though these had less flavour.

The trend accelerated with modern varieties like the satanic Elsanta. It crops well and has a long shelf life due to it (nearly) having the consistency of a turnip. It tastes a lot like one too.

I bought the Mount Everest this year....they haven't given yet but do have plenty on, though they are still green. The way they've taken off, next year there'll be tons of them.
I ordered the 6 plants and when they arrived and I unravelled them, there were 8.

I had 8 good strawberries from my mara des bois again today. They haven`t stopped cropping. Anyway thanks for the tip mr bear, I am very pleased. I feed them with good organic tomato fertiliser every 2 weeks. Cropping until the frost, wow. I suppose at that point I should cut the leaves down and maybe re-pot?

You can trim some leaves off if you like, but I dont see any reason to repot unless they are outgrowing the pots. Bad winters don`t bother them, and repotting might upset them.

They produce less berries than June bearers overall, but the crop is spread out which is very handy :)
