I have had an advisory on my MOT that the power steering belt needs replacing. Is that a job that can be done at home or a garage job?
Mnay thanks

Either really... depends on your skills.

knowing what car it is would help, as some belts run through engine mount.

Ditto above, and if you do do it yourself ensure you have drawn the belt run on paper as they aren't called serpentine belts for nothing;)

Do get it done, if it does shread or break in addition to the shock of no power steering it's been a common case of cambelt failure as the belt gets wrapped up with the cambelt with disasterous results.

All hyperthetical of cause until the models known
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

On my Mondeo I paid the garage because its a pig of a job so worth £20 labour. On my Capri I'd do it myself because the access is easy and it doesn't need "Ford Special Tool XXXX" to do.

If you have to ask, especially not giving the vehicle details, you need to take it to a garage!

Thanks, sorry for delay in replying, been away. The car involved is a 10 yr old Vectra.

i think all the petrol engined vectras of that age run their belt through the engine mount. take it too a garage as i dont think youd know what your doing , only because you had to ask about it. no offence

The old vectra is pretty easy to be honest.

If you can't complete this exercise you really do need to use a "garage" for all tasks.

Hope thats not offensive but it does put it in context, ;);)
