cupboard above cooker hood

I am hoping to redo the kitchen soon, and would like to know if is possible to place a cupboard above an extractor fan? I have a stainless steel one at the moment, and its ok, but thinking of changing it for a newer (hopefully more efficient, less loud) one like this and was wondering if it would be possible to put a bridging cupboard above it (possibly with a bit of the steel in there if needed?) It goes through a hole in the wall to outside currently .

I'm hoping to have cupboards that touch the ceiling to make the best use of space (I currently don't have enough space for all our stuff!)

I have the same hood and I fitted a cupboard above it. As it enters the bottom of the cupboard I turned it 90 degrees so that it went straight out the wall. It uses some of the cupboard space but not all of it. PM me if you want a photo of it.
