Unable to watch videos online..

Hi guys,
I got a new laptop at the weekend, it has windows 7, and Ive noticed that internet sites will not display videos. It just shows a black or white box with nothing to click on and is the same on many sites apart from youtube for some reason.
Ive tried updating flash but that hasn't helped.
Any ideas anyone?
