Opus energy/unfair billing

I have a commercial property where the tenant went bankrupt on April 27th 2011 & vacated the premises on 1st July 2011 handing back the keys & I took possesion.

Opus energy are demanding a standing charge from 27th April 11 to the 30th June 11 from me. I know I am responsible from 1st July 11 but am I responsible for the charges from 27th April 11 until 30th June 11?

Opus energy say under the Utilities Act 2000, I am.

The power was disconnected in October 2010 & to have the supply reconnected, which they call renergized, they have charged me £408.52 + a refundable deposit of £500 if I change suppliers, which of course, I will be doing.

Can anyone please tell me if this is correct & legal?

I'm having a nightmare with this company, they called me up and lied to get my details (I have just moved into a property and they said they were registering the meter) and they now say I have a verbal agreement with them - dispite me not having a meter!
They now say they are changing supplier to them and have set up a direct debit on my account (now cancelled) lord knows who's electricity they are trying to charge me for!
They say they wont cancel unless I give them a copy of my tennancy agreement - I have explained that there's no way I'm giving them any personal information after the way they've lied, I wish they'd just go away.
I've posted warnings on as many sites as I can and put a warning as my facebook status (I wish someone had warned me!)
Hopefully they will get the message and start behaving in an honest manor..
    Waddle you do eh?
  • I have received a letter today from opus energy, regarding a debt outstanding on a old company that has ceased trading. after getting nowhere with opus it went to court in 2009, where the judge excepted that we pay £10.00 per month. opus are now asking for me to fill in a expenditure and income form and last 3 months bank statements. I am to do this by the 12th December.Do I have to give them my bank statements, i didn't have to give them to the court so why them?I have continued to pay the monthly arrangement with no problems. But I am now confused as are they allowed to do this as it was set by the court. opus energy were not too happy with the payments set at the time.I am not in a position to increase this amount as i pay other debters too. They were so awful to deal with the first time round, i am dreading going through this ordeal again. has anyone any advice ??????
