Raiding bins at night? It's much easier to raid supermarket bins during the day as you can see what you're doing and the security staff don't get all suspicious.

a few good ideas, I'm sure there are loads more on OS! Personally I wouldn't be comfortable about conning the store for a gift card though

I remember that old cotton knickers - the sort I wore to school in the 50's, navy blue with long legs :D - made excellent dusters!
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

Conning a department store out of £50, MSE you should be ashamed of drawing attention to this idea.

Article should be renamed "MoneySaving by lying".

Gift card, drinks into concerts and gym membership all obtained by deceit. Using the word pretending doesn't make it less of a lie.

So you did all read this important bit at the bottom of the article "Methods are not necessarily endorsed by MoneySavingExpert.com."
It's a news article not a how-to on ethical money saving.

The insistence to buy food and drink in a non restaurant setting seems wrong to me. Next they will be stipulating no picnics at the beach or in the park because there is a kiosk.
My mother used to use old underwear for dusters. Never heard of using them for Hankies.
I think the wedding gift card thing could possibly backfire if a lot of people did it because stores would just not offer them to anyone.
As far as the gym is concerned, why should it matter if the 'couple' are married or just friends? They have still gained 2 members !
Sometimes establishments put so many obstacles in the way of potential customers .

Drastic things we have done are
raid skips for furniture and toys.
Take broken machines apart and sell the useful spares.

Yes, not as a personal attack at Helen, but as a way of drawing MSEs attention to this shocking article. I see no way of 'reporting' the original writer, otherwise I would have done.
