Be warned about pesky DRM and IRM

I bought some song downloads from 3MusicStore that are DRM (Digital Rights Management) protected, with a limit of 3 licence downloads, and these songs played fine on my phone and pc. I tried upgrading my pc music player to Windows Media Player version 11, did not like the new version, and reverted to version 10. However this has used up the allowed number of licence downloads, so that the songs no longer play on the pc.
I understand the need for music publishers to have a way to protect their material from piracy, but the DRM system makes it impractical for licence holders to use the music.
This thread probably belongs to the Vent Board, but is particularly relevant to computer users, because shortly Microsoft will be unleashing Windows Vista and Office 2007 on the public, with a more vicious offspring of DRM called IRM, Information Rights Management, which will allow Microsoft to control people's use of their own documents and their own computers.
