Change icon of hardware

I bought a external hard drive, and when I plugged it in it automatically loaded up with the installation software as it was actually on the hard drive, once installed, I deleted the filed in the hard drive, and now it comes up with a crappy icon that really puts me off.. I can't find the option to change the icon in the properties, can I get some help changing it please?

Afraid not, it is different for hardware.

You might be able to designate an icon for your external storage device by placing an autorun.inf file on it...

In the registry edit the following key to point to the icon you want to use e.g. C:\icons\myicon.ico

\X\ is the drive letter.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Dr
iveIcons\X\DefaultIcon

You may have to create the key "DefaultIcon"

If you have, or create a Defaultlabel key you can change the drives label too.
