Scratched Macbook Pro

Options
Hi all

Have recently bought a Macbook Pro, and what's (almost) the first thing I do with it - I scratch the casing by leaving it on the floor where unknown to me there is a nail head sticking up ever so slightly.

The scratches on the anodised aluminium casing aren't grooves ie they don't catch your fingernail when you draw it across, but they are unsightly.

Anyone have any idea how to get rid of them?

Thanks

Mark

  • I think you're just going to have to live with it TBH. I've seen all sorts of suggestions from steel wool (noooooooo) to rubbing a banana skin on the scratches, but I don't think anything will restore pristine condition. The best results seem to be from using a car product called "Meguiars Scratch X 2.0", but even that seems hit and miss.

The aluminium is going to pick up a lot more scratches over the years, and tho it may be irritating now, the best thing to do is probably just to ignore it! A lot of the suggestions people make online will probably just make it looks worse, so tread very carefully. And perhaps get a hardshell case :)

Or try Autoglym SuperResin Polish, it fixes everything :) Repaires CD's, plastic windows, coffee tables... works very well on pretty much everything except glass.

You can't. Anything you do will be very noticable due to the rough finish.

Which will leave a nice shiny patch on the rough surface it comes as.

No replacement plastics on ebay or the net you could buy and fit yourself (or get a local shop to fit?)

The impact of this is to stigmatise people on benefits,

Heh-heh. A mate of mine who sells laptops sometimes sands down and polishes the silver lids on Dell Inspiron 6400 and 1500 series when they're scratched. They come out a lovely white and look better than the original.
