'You CANNOT give 110% effort – an explosion of pent up nerd rage' blog discussion

I used to care, and check on the computer system I was responsible for at 3am by modem from home, and have missed the last train so slept under the desk overnight. A year of this got £600 in bonus money, second highest in the department. And then they made me redundant for a package worth £40k.
That's a funny way to encourage extra effort, I thought.0 -
It does fit some effort scenarios:
Something akin to an engine/motor's nameplate capacity. Its designed to run at a maximum 100% speed, its designed to operate reliably at 100% for years of use. You CAN with a few tricks overspeed it to 110% for short periods if you like but it'll eventually shake itself to pieces if run it that way for too long.
Hence you can ask someone for 110%... but try to get them to sustain it for too long and expect them to suffer some kind of breakdown
