I always took "110% effort" meaning you are giving more than is required.
Shopper: I would like 10 apples please
Con the Fruiterer: Here's 11 apples my good fellow!
Shopper: Wow, you really give 110 percent!
Interviewer: You will need to dedicate 5 hours per day on this project, are you up for it?
Job applicant: I am, and I'll put in an extra half an hour at home as well!
Interviewer: 110% effort! That's the kind of dedication we're after at this company!
Interviewer 2: We don't just want someone who'll given merely enough effort, we want someone with enthusiasm!
Applicant 2: Someone who gives 110 percent?

We live in a society where banks, with the help of supposedly independent credit rating agencies, dress up junk housing debt as top quality assets, politicians cheat on their expenses, newspapers routinely break the law to intrude on peoples' privacy for years to get stories, police accept payments from the press in return for information, and national governments effectively lie to hide the size of their debts.
It may be OK for Martin, but for most of us, if we can't swallow a small bit of hypocrisy like making a meaningless statement about 110% effort, where do we think we are actually going to fit in to society?0 -

I agree, my husband & I find 110% very annoying. Agree with other comments as well, e.g. lack of apostrophe use so I'll becomes Ill. Can somebody explain "near miss" when you allegedly almost had an accident? Should it not be "near hit", because if you nearly missed something, you actually hit it!:rotfl:0
