Was I mis-sold this car?

  • Ok just to clarify - the work I had done to the car was the sensor replacement - which the MB specialist in question has confirmed involved replacing the sensor (and painting the new sensor). In my previous thread I think I mentioned respraying the bumper assuming that was the case (certainly based on cost it bloody should have been!). And no, this isn't something I tried to hide from MB - the accompanying paperwork went back to them with the car! They know I had the sensor done, and accept I did not have the bumper repaired.

I'm not trying to get money for nothing, pgilc1. My point, as correctly observed by dazzadub, was that despite the car serving me well and so on and so forth, I had paid a premium price for a product for which upon its return, it became apparent that it had not gone through processes etc I had paid for. I'm curious as to why this is causing so much excitement on this thread. Yes, the car was indeed excellent (I still kinda miss it!) - but I could have bought the same car from Arthur Daley (ref for the older posters there!) - on a "buyer beware" basis, and not paid the same money as I did to MB.

Why did I not complain sooner? Because I didn't bloody know about the lack of inspection until the car went back! I fought MB for several months on disputed wear and tear items, only to have the BVRLA make MB finally admit they didnt have a pre-delivery inspection report, and yet the DO have a report from the inspection after I returned it. So they have proof of inspection upon return, and yet I should just take their word for it that it was inspected beforehand?! No thanks! As I said earlier in this thread, had I know it hadn't undergone MB approved used processes, I wouldnt have bought it - at least, not at MB prices! I wonder if the people criticising me for this would also criticise those that were mis-sold PPI for taking out the policy in good faith in the first place?

Thankfully (seemingly at least) the only faults that were missed by the lack of pre-inspection were minor and cosmetic. Would you all still be saying "tough luck" if MB's apparent lack of inspection had left me buying a car that was fundamentally flawed, resulting in serious injury - either mine, or someone else's?

Pardon me for only having the benefit of hindsight. Some people in this thread seem to think that having discovered I'd spent good money on something that wasn't fully as described, this is my fault. Fine. Would those people care to buy a 100% genuine Rolex off me for £500... sadly I dont have the certificate of authenticity, but as a reputable person, you can trust me, right?!?

And no, it's not my real name.
