Broken TV from Amazon - 14 months old

Options
This is the first time I've ever had to really look into the SoGA and I would like some advice!

Basically we purchased "Toshiba Regza 42AV635DB 42-inch Widescreen Full HD 1080p LCD TV" from Amazon in May 2010. It's always had an issue with the sound with anything that is connected via a HDMI slot, so for example our V+ HD box, and it will constantly make the sound go like "alien voices!" which can only be resolved by turning the TV on and off again. Toshiba explained a firmware update - this was done but it didn't fix the problem. We lived with this for a year as at first it rarely happened, but over time this is happening quite often whilst watching TV.

Now in the past 2 months (conveniently since the 1 year warranty was up!) we've experienced a lot more problems making the TV quite useless. One is that the connection for the Xbox 360 cable is broke, it makes the sound extremely faint and crackly and means we can't use our Xbox 360 with the TV, we tried new cables but it's a problem with the TV. The TV now does not power up from Standby mode unless you switch the TV on straight away from switching it on at the mains. When using the PS3 the screen constantly goes blue and involves more unplugging and re-plugging of cables (and this is combined with the sound problem involving switching the TV on and off!)

Quite frankly I'm fed up with this TV and it's problems, we can't watch anything without switching it on and off again and we can't use our games consoles with it anymore.

I wrote to Amazon and they have said there is nothing they can do as it's over the 1 year warranty, however I don't believe 14 months is a reasonable amount of time for a TV, I've certainly never had problems with other TV's in the past which have lasted years!

Can I reasonably expect Amazon to exchange this TV after so long? I am prepared to have an independent report done for the TV but the response I had originally is not very hopefuly with them redirecting me to Toshiba and saying there is nothing they can do as it's after the 1 year warranty period.

You can reasonably expect Amozon to provide a remedy.
That remedy may be a repair, replacement or refund.
Any refund may be partial, taking into account the use you have had of the thing.

Tell Amazon what you have told us and remind them of their responsibility under SOGA. They may well ask for a report showing that the thing was faulty at the time of sale, but don't get one until they do ask.

I have found Amazon quite reasonable.
    Maybe ring them and discuss.

I replied stating I waqs writing under the Sales of Goods Act and I was passed onto the executive team. I now have a new TV being sent to me. I'm always impressed with Amazon's quick customer service!

Blimey, that was quick. Why didn't they do that when the television set first went wrong?
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark
