Hi,
Just been refused the above account, as my creidt rating was not good enough.
I was looking to switch from my HSBC current account I've had for years.
I was offered a std current account with A & L but declined.
Is it worth me getting my file from experian ? My credit history is pretty poor, is there anything you can actually change to improve it ?
Many thanks for your help,
Regards,
BJ

Assuming you earn enough to meet this accounts terms and conditions, it may be worth phoning A+L up and querying their decision. I was intially refused and then phoned and got accepted.
In my case, the problem was because I had recently moved house and wasn't on the Electoral Register. Are you registered?
If they still turn you down over the phone, ask for the reasons. You could then follow it up by using the Experian free credit check trial, just to see what is showing up on your credit records.
Hope that helps. Jo.0 -
If you actually know that your credit history is poor, there's probably not much point getting it from Experian (although £2 isn't a lot to spend). You cannot do anything magical to "fix" your history despite what some companies claim.
All you can do is work your adverse history off - by running your accounts in a squeaky-clean way from now onwards - so that eventually the "good" history replaces the "bad".
It's worth appealing decisions if there is missing info - as the last poster said - but less likely to succeed if you know there's lots of bad info there. But the fact you are being offered the standard account means you are not a lost cause - and a phone call might get you from marginal - reject to marginal - accept if you are nice to them!0
