Can I cancel a Used Car Order Form

Options
We signed a used car order form on Wednesday evening as we had been told we were pre-approved for finance from a finance compnay. However we have changed our mind as the rates quoted are too high and want to cancel the agreement. Are we within our rights to cancel, no money has changed hands and we have not signed the finance agreement.

You have signed to buy the car, I dont see how you can pull out of that. You can choose to take the finance or not I guess but you will need to get fianace from somewhere unless you have the cash.

  • The order for was subject to finance. We do not have the cash.

Given that you have been approved for finance I dont see how you can pull out because "subject to finance" condition has been met.

HHMMM i'm sure there will be a way to pull out as most people who seem to waste other peoples time can seem to do what they want. Go to the dealer and scream trading standards, SOGA, AA, RAC and you'll be fine. Thats what others seem to do.

Have you read through the paperwork you would have been given to see if there is a cooling off period or something along those lines?

If it's an Order Form then you'll be able to pull out of the deal. The garage could keep a small percentage of the deposit (if you left one) cos they have to re advertise the car, they spent time and money selling you the car etc and no one works for free.

Maybe next time, get the finance 100% sorted before going looking at cars. I'm guessing you have poor credit history the way you say you have been "pre approved..."

Why do so many people seem to commit to the purchase first, then go and try to find the money?

I'm staggered at the amount of posts where people are in this position. Secured Finance on the car is one thing, but so many go looking for personal loans after paying the deposit only to find there aren't any.

Is it really beyond logic to get the money arranged first before signing?

This is not one of those car supermarket places, is it?

No money has changed hands so I don't see any reason why you can't cancel - ignore that first reply! You're the customer here and the garage should teat you nicely so you'll want to go back to them when you are ready to buy a car. Check the small-print first (you may be entitled to cancel) then phone the garage and ask nicely if you can cancel. If they say no or ask for part payment (both seem unlikely) say you'll think about it and call CAB or your local Trading Standards office.

i think you can, you not signing an agreement, your signing the requirements you wish, as this form will have any px on it and all details of what you want, its common practise now.

it has no legal standing, its just saying you want this and this and are selling this at this amount etc.

just tell them your not intrested.
