I wish I had the same income and outgoings as you and could still get an interest free loan.
Anyone can get a crisis loan. You do not need to be claiming benefits. You do need to have a genuine need to get it though. i.e a loan for a new telly won't count. http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyTaxAndBenefits/BenefitsTaxCreditsAndOtherSupport/On_a_low_income/DG_10018856

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

It was the first i'd heard & I was suprised that they could take over half your money like that but luckily they agreed & gave me some of it back.

What arrangement did you have to pay back to loan? (Prior to contact)

But don't you have a private pension and savings kriss? That would rule it out straight away.

Yes we do, which is why I assumed we wouldn't get one.

Interest free loan would always interest me as a true MSE'r. The ISA isn't paying much but if the loan was interest free then anything gained would be worth having.

I only got it as i'd changed my tax credits claim from single to joint & it took nearly 2 months for the payments to come through.

They don't give out crisis loans unless you desperately need the money.

I can't remember tbh but they said they would take it out of my IS.

I presumed i'd already paid it seeing as it was 14 months ago.

Obviously I don't object to paying it but it would of been nice to of been given some notice so I could budget accordingly.

But surely you budgeted to account for the payments in the 1st instance. I cannot imagine getting a loan from Barclays and completely failing to notice they weren't taking the payments, to the extent that I thought it had been paid!

If you're on a low income like IS, I would've thought you'd have to account for every penny, much less not notice that loan payments hadn't been taken out over an extended period.
