.
Bake for about half an hour. My family love this but as there are six of us it takes a while to make the pancakes - worth it though.
by pancakes, do you mean pancake pancakes --the thin ones made from batter that are traditionally eaten on shrove tuesday? not too dis-similar to a tortilla wrap?know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -
from the sound of recipe. i personally would say it sounds like proper pancakes ( batter type)

Pancakes are a great meal whatever you put in them. My family sit there waiting and swoop as they come out of the pan, so I never have time to make them into anything more special unless I do them when everybody's out.
I have done them filled with leftover bolognese sauce, topped with cheese sauce and grated cheese and baked - this ends up a bit like lasagne and is really tasty. :drool:Oh dear, here we go again.0 -
jcr16 wrote:just had a thought ( and yes it did hurt, lol) what about adding tuna aswell to it. so a layer of spud , onion , sweetcorn , tuna and cheese and carry on till top of dish.
this recipe is so versitile , i guess anything could be added.depending on what u had that needed using.

How about corned beef, for a sort of CB hash type thing? I've never tried it but I bet it would be good.Oh dear, here we go again.0 -

Hi
We tried this yesterday and the potatoes were really great. I wrote the plan on a bit a paper which DH then followed, so we had an odd layer of tomatoes on the top which was then covered with cheese .
Really quick to make and went down well
I will be trying variations on this again

i done some more thinking about this today. ( i kinda went off in a day dream while out to lunch , whoops.) anyway if i am going to be out all afternoon and i want to make sure dinner is ready when we get home. i make this meal about 11 ish and put it in oven on gas mark 3 about half 12. and it is ready to serve at 5 ish.
it is so versitile. but then i have only done this with the onion , pot and cheese way.
but i got a feeling i might try it tomoz and if i do this , then i report back as to how it goes cooking it for a long time.0 -

thriftlady wrote:No, you don't need to cook the bacon. The dish is cooked for a long time
Here's the recipe

I should say it is adapted (slightly) from Jocasta Innes' 'Pauper's Cookbook'
It's also nice with smoked mackerel instead of bacon.
I've just had thriftlady's Potato, Onion and Bacon dish ... made exactly as she described it (with the cheese sauce version). I served it with some savoy cabbage. It is delicious and is definately set to become one of our weekend dishes. I found myself trying to scrape of the last residues from the casserole dish :rotfl:Enjoying an MSE OS life0
