Credit gone???

Hi
sorry don't know where to put this?
I'll try and keep short. I had a mortgage 3 yrs ago, me and my ex split, I had an amazing credit rating, had people trying to give me credit left right and centre. I've got premium bonds and £4000 in an ISA and 4 bank accounts, I walked into Lloyds the other day and had no issues opening another.
I have a card that I haven't used for aprox 1 yr, but I applied for two cards recently from this site, marks and spencer and tesco, to get the rewards, not for shopping purposes if you know what I mean. I've been rejected twice. I work full time, never ever missed a rent/mortgage/hp payment of anything in my life.

What could be the problem??? Anyone have any ideas???? Totally at a loss as to why my credit gone. The letter from M and S says I'm not suffiecient to recieve credit??

Confused?

Cheers guys

I believe and am prepared to be told I am wrong... but I think Lenders only allow you a certain % of your income to be used. If you already have cards that use this % then they wont allow you more. You may not be using the card, but the potential is there for you to run up the card you already have, then run up the new card as well.

probably haven't explained that very well sorry

You may have a high credit to income ratio, which is taken into consideration when calculating if you are credit worthy.

No joint stuff. I have a £6000 limit on the other card but not used for over a year, no debt what so ever. I only have the card for emergencies, like if abroad or something. Only a back up. I used cards before just to get the benefits etc like everyone else. I'm very good at money management, no store cards nothing?????

~There ya go then, as Shelldean said above, you have available credit, ie £6000, therefore your subsequent applications for a Tesco and M&S card will reflect their decision on awarding you more available credit.

You could ask for the £6000 to be reduced, but it may take a few months before you can reapply to Tesco and/or M&S before they will review your available credit and what is left to offer.
