I opened a Coventry poppy saver over three weeks ago. Already had a branch account so they didn't ask for ID, thank God. First they sent me a four digit code, which i've already misplaced from over two and a half weeks ago. Then they sent me a letter where i have to choose a password with letters and numbers, and return back to them in a pre-paid envelope. Then they sent me a web ID, which is IMPOSSIBLE to remember. Then today they sent me a "Grid Card" to access my money
I've had First Direct, RBS and Santander (A&L) online accounts for many years and i've got everything memorised and can access my accounts while away from home. Security should be taken seriously, but this is overkill

Your lucky to get an account.
I tried to open an account and every time I apply it pops up
Applying for our CallSave Fixed Bond (128) 30.04.2016 account
so with a mistake like that plus the palaver your describing think I might look elsewhere.
Shame it a half decent account that might help the poppy appeal.0 -
If your passwords are that easy to remember they are less safe in the ultimate probability compared to random characters.
I also opened the poppy saver and was impressed with the level of security they have. Knowing a bit about technology I would be happier if all my online accounts had a similar level of security.
The 4 digit pin is purely for telephone transactions which you can do if you want simplicity from your mobile. The rest I have in my encrypted file which is easy to copy and paste from if online (the grid card is copied to the file), originals destroyed, and suitable encrypted backups available in case of hardware failures.0 -

BTW once you have opened a Coventry Online account and gone through their hoops, is is then really simple to open another (say an online bond) while your Poppy Save is open.
I have always been impressed with Coventry.0
